Cacti Ping Latency Graph Problem SOLVED

I was having difficulty with generating ping latency graph using Cacti in Debian 6. Being a novice in Cacti, I was not sure what was causing the "-nan" output in the ping latency graphs. It may be mentioned that I was getting bandwidth usage graph without any problem. Well, the solution is here. Before we start with the explanation, let's check something interesting. Smokeping: Password Protecting

In this post, we will be looking at how to password protect Smokeping. As you may know, Smokeping pages are usually not password protected and can be viewed by anyone by defauly. Limit the view to a limited number of users, either of the following ways are possible- Using the web server configuration file to set passwords Using htaccess to set passwords According to Apache, using .htaccess should be avoided whenever possible, as .htaccess may hamper the web server performance ( Source ). Apache recommends using the web server configuration files for setting up passwords. Here's how it's done. DNS-based Blackhole List (DNSBL) or Real-time Blackhole List (RBL) is an effort to fight spam emails. It is a blacklist of source IP addresses that have a reputation of sending spam emails. Most email systems can be configured to check these lists and block or flag emails that were sent from domains/IPs listed there. The ‘Blackhole List’ is sometimes called ‘blacklist’ by email admins. In this tutorial, we’ll see how we can configure RBL with Zimbra using both GUI and CLI. Method 1 - GUI: Login to the Zimbra admin console – https://mail.example.com:7071 , and then go to Configure . This article was originally written for xmodulo . A typical network/system admin is responsible for managing one or more subnets within the network under control. For example, when a LAN segment is assigned a /24 subnet, a total of 254 IP addresses can be used for different purposes. To keep track of what IP addresses are assigned to which hosts, some sort of documentation is needed. The easiest way to do it would be maintaining a single spreadsheet which documents IP address allocation information. This works like a charm for a small network with only one admin. However, relying on a spreadsheet is not convenient and can be error-prone with multiple large networks. Worse, if there are multiple admins involved, updating the spreadsheet could be tricky as each admin could often end up with different versions of the document. Setting Up Looking Glass Background A looking glass is a server that allows someone from outside the network to get information about the how traffic is routed through the network backbone of an organization. For example, suppose Alpha Corp. has one router in the US and another in Australia. An outside user wants to know how traffic towards Japan is routed from both of these Routers. As the user does not have credentials to the Routers, he cannot run traceroutes. The solution: a Looking Glass. If Alpha Corp. has a looking glass, the user can query about ping, trace, BGP and other information through the web-based looking glass without needing to authenticate to the actual router.
